Frequently asked questions
Which apple variety should I use?
In all honesty, I usually just use whatever apples I have on hand. That being said, I've noticed that Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples give a really nice result that I enjoy quite a bit.
Can I reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe?
Of course, the amount of sugar here (120 grams) works for me, but feel free to decrease or increase it according to your preferences.
Can I make this crumble ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare the crumble in advance. You can bake it completely, let it cool, then cover it and leave it at room temperature until serving. You can also prepare the apple filling and the crumble topping separately, store them in the refrigerator, then assemble and bake just before serving.
How should I store apple crumble?
Once the crumble has cooled, cover it with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container for up to one week in the refrigerator. If you prefer, you can also freeze it; it will keep for much longer that way.
