An airy and 100% plant-based chocolate mousse thanks to silken tofu. A light, creamy, and flavorful dessert, perfect as a dairy-free vegan alternative.

Ingredients

Serves : 4 servings

  • 300 g silken tofu
  • 150 g dark chocolate
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 dash vanilla extract (a splash)

Instructions

Step 1

Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring frequently. (Be careful not to burn the chocolate.)

Step 2

In a blender, combine the melted chocolate with the silken tofu, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend until perfectly smooth.

Step 3

Pour the mixture into bowls or ramekins and let it rest in the refrigerator for a few hours. (Chilling allows the mousse to set and the flavors to develop.)

Step 4

Add the toppings of your choice before serving.

Tips

  • Use fresh silken tofu (often found in health food stores) for the best texture.
  • For extra crunch, add crushed hazelnuts or chocolate chips.
  • Orange zest adds a fresh note that pairs perfectly with dark chocolate.

Substitutions

  • maple syrup → honey, agave syrup, date syrup, or liquid sugar — Note that honey is not vegan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use firm tofu instead of silken tofu?

No, it is not recommended to use firm tofu. Silken tofu has a soft, almost liquid texture that allows for a smooth and airy consistency.

Can I use a different type of chocolate other than dark chocolate?

Absolutely, you can use milk or white chocolate, but this will affect the sweetness of the mousse; adjust the amount of sweetener accordingly.

How long can I keep this mousse?

It can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3 to 5 days.
